The largest new chemical complex in Zhambyl Region

A project is being implemented in the Zhambyl region to construct the largest chemical complex with a capacity of 1 million tons of ammophos per year

“In the Sarysu District of the Zhambyl Region, preparations are underway for the construction of a strategic, nationally significant project — the largest chemical complex in Kazakhstan for the production of mineral fertilizers. The planned capacity of the new facility is 1 million tons of products per year. The project was presented to media representatives during a press tour organized with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The project is being implemented by Zhanatas Chemical Complex LLP, a sister company of Kazphosphate, the leading chemical industry enterprise in Kazakhstan and the CIS.

“To produce fertilizers that meet international standards, a unique ore deep-beneficiation technology—unprecedented in CIS countries—will be introduced. This technology addresses the long-standing issue of the high impurity content in the phosphorites of the Karatau Basin.

The total investment in the project will exceed 300 billion tenge. To finance it, the possibility of attracting funds from the Development Bank of Kazakhstan and other sources is being considered.

The project will also have a significant socio-economic impact on the region, with the creation of 1,200 new highly qualified jobs. Training, internships, and professional development programs designed in cooperation with the company’s international partners will be organized to prepare the workforce.

The complex in Zhanatas will be built based on an integrated production chain that ensures a full cycle of raw material processing. Its operations will fully comply with international environmental standards through the use of modern air-purification systems and best available technologies.

At the current stage, the complex is undergoing design work. Additional exploration of the Kistas deposit, which will serve as the main source of raw materials, has been completed, and technical specifications for gas and power connections have been obtained. To supply water to the plant, fieldwork is underway for further exploration of the Akzhar underground water deposit: drilling operations and test water pumping have been completed. In parallel, negotiations with international EPC contractors are ongoing. Construction and installation work is scheduled to begin at the end of 2026.

Yerzhan Mukanov, General Director of Zhanatas Chemical Complex:

«“Zhanatas Chemical Complex is not just another production facility — it is a step into the future of Kazakhstan’s chemical industry, an investment in people, technologies, and the country’s competitiveness for decades to come. The new complex will become the largest next-generation chemical production site in Kazakhstan and will strengthen the country’s position as a reliable producer and exporter of mineral fertilizers on the global market».
