Sustainable Development and Environmental Responsibility—Kazphosphate Priorities

Environmental responsibility—the top priority

During a working trip to the Zhambyl Region in May 2026, Zhomart Aliyev, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, visited Kazphosphate LLP and familiarized himself with the company’s operations, key areas of modernization, and ongoing environmental initiatives.

Company management presented the Deputy Minister with the results of their production activities, strategic initiatives in the field of technological modernization, and a set of measures aimed at improving the environmental efficiency of production. Particular attention was paid to infrastructure modernization, the rational use of natural resources, and the improvement of the environmental monitoring system. Following the visit, Kazphosphate reaffirmed its intention to consistently develop environmental initiatives as part of the company’s sustainable development strategy.

One of the key areas of the company’s environmental program is the phased increase in the processing and recycling of phosphogypsum—one of the main types of large-volume production waste. The program currently being implemented calls for expanding the reuse of secondary resources, developing mechanisms for transferring materials to specialized organizations, and utilizing phosphogypsum for engineering and technical purposes. In addition, Kazphosphate is exploring avenues for cooperation with third-party organizations in the field of phosphogypsum processing and the extraction of components suitable for further industrial use. This approach aligns with the company’s strategic focus on implementing modern environmental practices, advancing the principles of the circular economy, and reducing the environmental impact of its operations.

A separate focus of Kazphospate company's environmental program remains the implementation of research and technology projects aimed at improving the resource efficiency of production. In particular, the company is considering the implementation of technologies that will further reduce atmospheric pollutant emissions by 150–200 metric tons per year by 2029 and ensure the reuse of water resources within the production cycle. As part of the environmental modernization, the company also plans to gradually implement an automated air quality monitoring system along the perimeter of the plant’s sanitary protection zone, with the installation of four automated monitoring stations by 2030. The implementation of this system will increase the transparency of environmental oversight and the effectiveness of monitoring the plant’s environmental impact.

Following the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of constructive cooperation between the government and the industrial sector in implementing modern environmental standards and ensuring sustainable production. For Kazphospate, environmental modernization remains one of the strategic priorities that will shape the company’s future development and its contribution to creating a more sustainable industrial environment in Kazakhstan.
